The reminder about the difference between pursuing a case and pursuing the issues which a case reveals is very important. Accountability Scotland as an organisation is about the latter.
It is there to learn about and from cases, especially to reveal the learning that is being blocked by the official bodies, especially those ostensibly independent and set up to administer administrative justice.
But 'independence' whilst pursuing case investigation and determination through secret processes, failing to publish decision reports, and even giving jurisdictional rulings covertly between bodies, and even giving different jurisdictional answers to public bodies and politicians on the same substantive point, is causing those bodies to invert the principles of administrative justice, ethical standards in public life and the rule of law itself.
These behaviours are occurring and evidence of them oozes out with persistence. This is why Accountability Scotland is so much needed.

With regard to the petition the SPSO has been told to change how they conduct customer satisfaction surveys after Accountability Scotland submitted evidence of bias by them. Rosemary Agnew was asked by Parliament about Accountability Scotland's position regarding how complaints should be handled and investigated confirmed that she was coming round to our way of thinking. We said that the public authorities in their response must state what they should have done with regard to any complaint and how they measured up against this as opposed to accepting what they are told by the public authority as gospel and basing it on this. We will be keeping and eye on whether they do this or not.
The link below is the SPSO giving evidence to the local go & planning committee where she is asked about the customer sat and AS's view how complaints should be investigated and she states that she is now thinking along the same lines as us.
